I bought the appropriate IAK FOB from eBay. I went to Ford's website for instructions to sync the new FOB with my vehicle. I had two FOBs already programmed, no problem there!
Printed out the instructions below directly from Ford's site, which they claimed were for my specific model of Escape (2017 Titanium with Sync3).

1. Put the new unprogrammed Intelligent Access key in the center console pocket.
2. Press the driver or passenger power door unlock control three times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal once.
4. Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
5. Press and release the brake pedal once. The indicator on the Start/Stop button should begin to flash quickly, indicating that the programming mode has been entered and two programmed Intelligent Access keys have been detected in the vehicle.
6. Within one minute, press the Start/Stop button. A message will be displayed on the message center indicating that the new Intelligent Access key was programmed.
7. Remove the Intelligent Access key from the center console pocket and press the unlock control on the newly programmed Intelligent Access keys to exit the programming mode.
8. Verify that the new Intelligent Access key's remote entry functions operate by pressing lock, then unlock, and then starting the vehicle.
Your new Intelligent Access key is ready to use.

Spent over an hour trying to get my Escape into programming mode in Step 5 above. No love. I then realized the Start/Stop button has no indicator to flash - it only has illumination which comes on with the headlights.
I hit up the index of the Owner's Manual and found around page 55 or 57, they detailed the information to sync a new IAK FOB with the vehicle (as long as you have two previously programmed IAKs in the vehicle with you, it can be done without going to the dealer). The process in the manual was drastically different from the above steps outlined on Ford's website. Took me less than one minute to read the instructions in the manual and program the new IAK.
Lesson learned. Ford's website can be virtually worthless. Hit up the Owner's Manual instead!

What You Need For Ford ABS Module Programming?
1. A laptop
2. Ford IDS Software.(Ford IDS Software Free Download)
3. Hardware as Ford VCM II or VXDIAG Ford
Procedures of reflash ABS Module:
1.Install Ford IDS software on your laptop.

2. Connect the VCM hardware to vehicle and launch Ford IDS software.
3. Turn ignition key to “ON” position,select “Start New Session”–>”All other”
4. Wait progress bar complete,and then click tick
5. Select “None Of The Above”—>select ”Not equipped”,then it will show the vehicle specification,click “YES”
6. Switch the toolbar,and then select “Module Programming”–>select “ABS”.
And then software display below massage:
“During Module Programming this module goes through a VIN verification process.
This process compares the VIN in this medule with the VIN in other modules on the vehicle.You may see the VIN verification screen more than once depending upon your response to the question”
7. Tab “Enter”,the software dislay VIN:1FMCU03759KB00229. Click “YES” or tab “Enter” to continue.
Wait and the click “YES”
Where is my driver's license number located. Make sure your key is on,and tab “Enter”
Then display the massage:
“The module you are about to program has multiple internal memory locations.During programming you may see multiple bar graphs indicating the programming sequence of each memory location.Please do not disconnect any cables or turn the igniton key off uless instructed to do so by the diagnostic tester.”
ABS Module is programming,pls wait….
Set ignition switch to OFF (Position 0)
Operation in progress,wait for complete
Set the ignition swithch to ON
Calibration has been loaded and checked,then tab”enter”
8. Switch the toolbar,and select–>”Self Test”–>”All CMDTCs”,it will read the DTCs
9. And then,screen show as below,select “U002B:08-08-RCM”—>select “clear DTCs”—>select “tick” to clear.Then wait for DTCs clear completing
When the DTCs clear completing,the ABS programming done!

2. Set ignition switch to ON
3. Configuring please wait…
4. Set ignition switch to OFF(Position 0)

6. Set the ignition switch to ON
7. It will show you “Module configuration complete”
8. Clear the DTCs
